Scurlock Farms Boutique Farm Stay Retreat – Family, Pet and Eco-Friendly
Come enjoy a farm stay at Scurlock Farms in one of our two Airbnb homes and enjoy a local family owned and run boutique farm retreat specializing in making every aspect of your stay truly memorable! The homes are pet and eco-friendly, and are in the middle of Scurlock Farms in the Texas Hill Country, on a truly remarkable 172 acres on the eastern side of the Texas Hill Country. The terrain is very varied which makes for great hiking opportunities, animal habitat and beauty. The top pasture is prairie with horses, cows, and goats grazing. Watch for deer and other critters in the top hay pastures and on the steep hillside with ravines.
The 20 acre pecan orchard and more hay pastures are beautiful and are in the river bottom. Then, of course, the one mile of the beautiful San Gabriel River itself with wide, white limestone banks full of fossils, and plenty of fish. Tubing is great during the spring and early summer.
Locally owned and managed
We have owned our boutique farm for 55 years and have raised our family here; both of our boys now live on the farm with their families. NOT boutique as in “fancy schmancy.” Boutique as being in a special, quality-centric niche. We are local, we are family-operated, and we specialize in making our guests’ stays truly exceptional. We want you to know, whether you are here for a farm stay, a romantic getaway, work stay, vacation, etc., that we do this for a living and we take great pride in our craft.
We raise cattle, goats, pecans, and hay, and have many other domesticated animals (chickens, horses, cattle, dog, cats), and abundant wildlife on the property. Our farm and homes are made up of our family; local, specialized elements that make up our Theory of Limited Edition – there are not many of us out there. We care intensely about our farm, and our guests, and we do everything in our power to make sure guests have the best time possible when visiting us.
For those looking to enjoy a unique farm stay retreat and experience life living on a farm, you are invited to assist in feedings and egg collection and to partake in any of our farming chores in which you have interest. Or not! The farm is a retreat from city life. We can promise country quiet, trails for hiking, a spring-fed creek that runs through the property, and activities on the one mile of the beautiful San Gabriel River that forms the north border of our property, and lots of room to roam.
Bring your hiking boots and fishing gear. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to find an arrowhead and we know you’ll find lots of fossils!
What to do?
Scurlock Farms is a 172 acre working farm and guests have enjoyed being here during the different seasons. At different times of the year we bale hay, harvest pecans, baby goats and calves are born and love to be loved on and fed, there are beautiful fields of wildflowers to be enjoyed and photographed, and observe many types of birds migrating, nesting and raising their families.
Want to relax? Truly relax and not need to multi-task? Come and experience the peace and serenity of Scurlock Farms in the Texas Hill Country.
Whether you choose to stay outdoors under the majestic oaks to enjoy the breeze and a good book while listening to the abundant birds, or watching for wildlife, or coming back to a comfortable home and surroundings after a day of shopping or sightseeing, you will not be disappointed.
Family Friendly Stay
Families have enjoyed coming to the farm to stay in Rocky Overlook, and many have returned multiple times. It is nice for kiddos to see and experience life on a farm – to see where their vegetables come from and learn about the care of different animals – or to “drive” a large cabbed tractor from the jump seat. Many parents have reported their children’s electronics were forgotten while they were on the farm. They were having too much fun outdoors! The garage in Rocky Overlook has been converted into a playroom with lots of toys. Many games are in the home for families to enjoy some time together.
Eco-friendly Lodging
Being eco-friendly is a way of life here at Scurlock Farms. To begin with, the homes were built to be as energy efficient as possible. They have solid, thick rock walls that are insulated very well. All of the windows are double paned and/or glazed to block the damaging UV sun rays. Natural cedar was used for trim so it never needs painting. Blinds and curtains are provided to close during the heat of the day.
We harvest the trees from our own land. By selectively cutting out dead, sickly trees we can allow the hardwoods to grow and prosper, therefore preserving our woodlands for generations to come. The wood harvested is used for the fireplaces and fire pits in the homes.
To conserve energy we use LED lights and have energy efficient appliances. By not washing your linens and towels daily we can conserve water. All of our rooms are non-smoking. We harvest rainwater that is used in our gardens and we compost all vegetable waste.
And, we ask that everyone helps us out with our “green” lifestyle. An easy way to do this is to adjust the thermostat up or down (depending on the season) when you are leaving for a fw hours. The houses maintain the temperature very well due to their construction, making it very quick to cool down or heat back up when you return. Closing the blinds and/or curtains on the west windows during the hottest part of the afternoon will also help you keep the homes as cool as possible. We provide bins for recycling and composting. In addition, we raise free range chickens and sell their eggs.
We also raise and sell naturally grown fresh vegetables (when the season permits) using only organic pesticides and non-chemical fertilizers. Since all of our units have fully equipped kitchens you can prepare salads and vegetables fresh daily from that day’s harvest.
Truly Pet Friendly
We are truly pet friendly and welcome well-behaved, non-aggressive dogs (sorry no cats due to severe cat allergies in our family). Dogs are free to roam the farm with their owners off-leash. Many owners have told us this was the first time their pets had been able to run free and they enjoyed the farm as much as they did. We even provide furniture covers for furniture your pet might like to relax on. Towels are also provided for muddy paws or for drying off after your pets enjoy a swim in the river.
Check out the Events link below. There are so many things to do in the area if you are inclined to take day trips. Perhaps you would enjoy visiting wineries in the area, take some tours offered through the Williamson County Museum, antique shop around the square, take a run into Austin, or visit Magnolia in Waco (as most of our out-of-state guests do!)

In the evenings enjoy one of the many excellent restaurants in Georgetown, which include farm-to-table restaurants, just 10 minutes from home or throw a steak on the grill and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine with your significant other as you listen to the owls hoot at each other from the river bottom.
