Scurlock Farms: A Boutique, Family-Owned Farm Stay Retreat in the Texas Hill Country
Scurlock Farms is a family-owned, pet-friendly, and eco-conscious boutique farm stay retreat located on 172 remarkable acres along the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country. Here, guests are invited to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience life on a working farm — without sacrificing comfort or privacy.
Our two thoughtfully maintained guest homes are nestled within the heart of the farm, surrounded by wide-open skies, rolling pastures, and the natural beauty of land that has been cared for by our family for generations.
A Landscape Shaped by Nature
The terrain at Scurlock Farms is wonderfully varied, offering endless opportunities to explore. The upper pastures are open prairie where horses, cattle, and goats graze, while nearby hay fields and wooded ravines provide habitat for deer and abundant wildlife.
Below, a 20-acre pecan orchard and additional river-bottom pastures lead to one of our most treasured features — a mile of the San Gabriel River, with wide white limestone banks rich with fossils and excellent fishing. Tubing is especially enjoyable in the spring and early summer.
Bring your hiking boots and fishing gear — and keep an eye out for arrowheads and fossils along the way.
Rooted in Family, Crafted with Care
Our family has owned and worked this land for over 55 years, raising our children here — and today, both of our sons and their families also live on the farm.
When we say boutique, we don’t mean fancy or fussy. We mean intentional, personal, and quality-driven. Hosting is our livelihood, not a side project, and we take genuine pride in creating stays that feel meaningful, relaxed, and memorable — whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway, a working retreat, a family vacation, or simple country quiet.
This is what we call our Theory of Limited Edition — there aren’t many places like this, and we care deeply for both our land and our guests.
A Working Farm With Room to Roam
Scurlock Farms is home to cattle, goats, pecans, hay fields, free-range chickens, horses, and abundant wildlife. Guests who are curious are welcome to observe — or even participate — in farm life, from egg gathering to seasonal chores. Or you may choose to simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings and do nothing at all.
Throughout the year, guests experience:
-
Hay baling and pecan harvests
-
Baby goats and calves in spring
-
Fields of wildflowers
-
Migrating and nesting birds
-
Ever-changing Hill Country skies
Room to Relax, Space to Roam
This is a place to truly unwind. Spend your days under majestic oaks with a good book, listening to birdsong and watching wildlife, or return to your comfortable home after exploring Georgetown, shopping, or sightseeing.
Country quiet, scenic trails, a spring-fed creek, river access, and wide-open spaces are all part of the experience.
Family-Friendly Farm Stays With Space to Play
Families have long enjoyed returning to Scurlock Farms, particularly to Rocky Overlook, where children can experience farm life firsthand — seeing where food comes from, learning about animals, and enjoying plenty of outdoor play.
Many parents tell us that electronics are quickly forgotten here. Inside, games encourage family time together, and the converted garage playroom offers a welcoming space for younger guests.
Eco-Conscious by Nature, Lodging Built to Last
Sustainability is simply a way of life at Scurlock Farms.
Our homes were built for energy efficiency, featuring thick stone walls, double-paned or glazed windows, natural cedar trim, and thoughtful design that helps maintain comfortable temperatures year-round. LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, rainwater harvesting for gardens, composting, and recycling are all part of daily operations.
We selectively harvest wood from our own land to maintain healthy forests, using it for fireplaces and fire pits. We also raise free-range chickens and offer fresh eggs, along with seasonal vegetables grown using organic practices when available.
Guests are invited to support our green lifestyle by adjusting thermostats when away, closing blinds during peak heat, and using provided recycling and compost bins.
Truly Pet-Friendly Farm Stays
Well-behaved, non-aggressive dogs are welcome at Scurlock Farms (we are unable to accommodate cats due to severe allergies).
Dogs may roam the farm off-leash with their owners, and many guests tell us it’s the first time their pets have experienced such freedom. Furniture covers and towels for muddy paws or post-river swims are thoughtfully provided.
Explore Georgetown – or Stay Right Here
If you feel like venturing out, Georgetown is just minutes away and offers excellent dining — including farm-to-table favorites — along with shopping, events, and a charming historic square.
Guests also enjoy day trips to local wineries, museums, antique shops, Austin, or even Magnolia in Waco.
Or stay in, grill a steak, sip a glass of wine at sunset, and listen to owls calling from the river bottom.
Hosts Who Live on the Land
Because we live on the farm, we’re nearby whenever questions arise or recommendations are needed — while always respecting your privacy.
We’re happy to share local insight, help you plan your stay, or simply welcome you to the land we’re proud to call home.
Scurlock Farms is more than a place to stay — it’s a place to breathe, reconnect, and experience the Hill Country as it was meant to be.
