We are trying to do our part in helping our climate as much as we possibly can. There are many small things each of us can do that make a huge difference in the long run. There are a couple of things we ask that you help us with.
The homes walls are very well insulated with the thick layer of river rock and insulation, so they hold their temperature well, then heat and cool very quickly. When you are going to be gone for several hours or the day, please set the thermostat up or down several degrees. Close the blinds/drapes on the west side of the home in the summer. And, ceiling fans are in all of the rooms.
Recycling bins are in the garage of Rocky Overlook and we encourage you to use them. Our trash day is Tuesday. If you will set your trash cans out Monday evening, we will pick up and dispose of the trash for you. However, if you need a trash can emptied before Tuesday, just let us know and we will take care of it for you.
We have replaced all bulbs in the homes with LED bulbs and we are using energy star appliances. Also, we no longer use single-use plastic containers for shampoos, lotions, etc., but have large containers in the shower for your use.
We like to compost all food scraps, except meats. If you are a long-term guest, I can show you where to put any items to be composted. If you are just getting away for a few nights, there will be a pail with a lid in the garage you can put your scraps in, and we will compost them.
If you are from Texas, you know we are almost always in some state of drought. To conserve water, please be aware of the length of time you shower. A small thing, but one that can make such a difference, is don’t let the kitchen sink water run constantly when working around the sink.
