Essential Outdoor Vacation Tips That Will Help You Stay Prepared

Experiencing an outdoor vacation

Essential Outdoor Vacation Tips That Will Help You Stay Prepared

Outdoor vacations are a great way to get the family together for a fun, active getaway, but they do require some planning. Figuring out where to go, what to pack, and how you’ll get there are just a few considerations you’ll need to make, and you’ll also need to think about preparing for your time away by ensuring that your house is secure. When it comes to taking a trip of any kind, it’s important to keep safety in mind.

Ready to book a trip now? Take a look around Scurlock Farms to learn about the available activities, such as fishing, hiking, and nearby shopping. Then, use this guide to help you plan for an unforgettable vacation.

Prepare for your absence from work

Before you can start planning your trip, it’s a good idea to prepare for your absence at work by ensuring that your time off forms are filled out and that your desk isn’t overflowing when you return. You might put in a little extra time before you leave in order to tackle tasks that will be due or consider hiring a virtual assistant who can work on the little things while you’re gone. If you own a business, these preparations are especially crucial since you’ll need to take care of customers or clients even when you can’t be available to them. Share a polite notification to let them know whether they should expect things like shipping delays or if they can reach someone else in case of an issue while you’re gone. You can also set an away message on your own email.

Plan an itinerary

For many outdoorsy families, half the fun of taking a trip is in not knowing exactly what will happen next. While this freedom can be exhilarating, it’s important to create at least a basic itinerary or plan for the vacation ahead of time, as this will allow you to prepare for everyone’s safety and figure out packing details. Once you have your job or business taken care of, you can start putting together an itinerary that lists activities your family can take part in, events you can join, and side trips you can take for shopping or dining out. For road trippers, this is an essential step in staying on track and on schedule. If you’ll be camping in an RV, keep in mind that planning well will also allow you to book a site, as usually a reservation is required.

Pack smart

Your itinerary will give you a guide for packing, so it helps to be as detailed as possible. Spending time outdoors during a vacation requires some careful thought when it comes to what you’re going to bring; hiking, swimming, fishing, and boating may require safety gear, sunscreen, or specific types of clothing, depending on the season. If you’ll be bringing pets along, consider their safety and comfort as well by packing items that will protect their feet and keep fleas or ticks at bay, along with fresh water and a collapsible bowl. Being mindful of the items you pack will help you eliminate waste and keep your footprint to a minimum.

Plan for the unexpected

Packing for an outdoor vacation requires you to think about your activities and how to keep everyone safe, but it’s essential to also plan for the unexpected. Keep a weather app handy, so you can stay on top of the forecast, pack a first aid kit with enough items for everyone in the family, and bring backups for batteries, snacks, water, and warm clothing. If your vehicle will be parked far from your campsite or if you plan to go for a long hike, leave a note on the inside of the windshield with the date you arrived, just in case you end up needing emergency assistance.

Taking an outdoor family vacation can be beneficial on so many levels, including creating bonding time with the kids. Prepare for the trip by taking care of work responsibilities and writing out an itinerary so you can make the most of this precious time with your loved ones.

Repeat destination

Pros:
Great Location on a family-owned Farm.
Owner was extremely friendly and courteous.
Beautiful stretch of river near location.
Peaceful and quite.
Dog friendly
Perfect size for 2 people and a dog.

Details,
Sheron Scurlock provided such a unique and enjoyable rental that we are looking forward to going back to. The location is relatively close to many fun attractions in south Texas. However, the farm itself is well worth the trip to visit. There is a beautiful stretch of the San Gabriel within short walking distance. Sheron provided an extensive tour of the property. We were able to feed and interact with some of the different live stock they have on the farm. Sheron also provided fresh baked muffins and fruit for our mornings. When we arrived home from our enjoyable stay we received a hand written note from Sheron in which she expressed her gratitude that we came to visit and even made references to things we did during our visit. Sheron and the property were so welcoming, courteous, and enjoyable. We have been to many neat rentals over our trips, and this is the first one we are planning to make a repeat visit to. It just takes one visit to feel like you're a part of the Scurlock family. One visit and you'll be hooked and wanting to come back.
