Something for Everyone – River, Bluffs, Woods, Farm Animals, Abundant Wildlife and Equipment

August 31, 2023 by Sheron Scurlock Leave a Comment

Scurlock Farms is 172 beautiful acres of varied terrain

Scurlock Farms has a little bit of everything – from the top prairie hay pastures, to the wooded bluffs, spring-fed creek, heavily wooded acreage, winding roads through the pastures and 20 acre pecan orchard, and one mile of river frontage for the San Gabriel River.  Many guests choose to stay on the farm to swim, tube, fish, feed and interact with the farm animals, hunt arrowheads, birding, look for fossils, hike, …  Others choose to use the Airbnb homes as their home base while doing day trips about the area.

There is even a 100+ year old sharecropper’s home

Several photographers have used this old home as a backdrop for their models.  Many family Christmas card photos have been made at the home.

There are many spectacular photo shoot possibilities.  We are a working farm, so there is a lot of different farm equipment.

Feed and interact with our farm animals

Guests love interacting with our horses, cattle and goats. We keep sweet feed for the goats, apples for the horses, and range cubes for the cows.  You will be their new best friends if you feed them!

Birding

2/3 of all birds Texas birds are seen in Williamson County. Many avid birders have stayed at the farm, and every one of them has seen a lifer while here.  A lifer is a bird they had never seen in person before.

Sunsets from the highest bluff on the farm are spectacular.

Springtime brings an abundance of wildflowers to the farm

Spring is especially beautiful at the farm.  We have many varieties of native wildflowers and there is a lot of color.

Repeat destination

Pros:
Great Location on a family-owned Farm.
Owner was extremely friendly and courteous.
Beautiful stretch of river near location.
Peaceful and quite.
Dog friendly
Perfect size for 2 people and a dog.

Details,
Sheron Scurlock provided such a unique and enjoyable rental that we are looking forward to going back to. The location is relatively close to many fun attractions in south Texas. However, the farm itself is well worth the trip to visit. There is a beautiful stretch of the San Gabriel within short walking distance. Sheron provided an extensive tour of the property. We were able to feed and interact with some of the different live stock they have on the farm. Sheron also provided fresh baked muffins and fruit for our mornings. When we arrived home from our enjoyable stay we received a hand written note from Sheron in which she expressed her gratitude that we came to visit and even made references to things we did during our visit. Sheron and the property were so welcoming, courteous, and enjoyable. We have been to many neat rentals over our trips, and this is the first one we are planning to make a repeat visit to. It just takes one visit to feel like you're a part of the Scurlock family. One visit and you'll be hooked and wanting to come back.
