Looking for a Staycation Near You?
2020 has turned into a REALLY weird year for everyone! It has affected all of us. I have had to cancel all reservations from the first week in March through August, and I gave full refunds to all guests. I have totally missed having guests at Scurlock Farms and the animals have missed the kiddos playing with them. Many folks are weary of being cooped up for so long, but are not sure about staying in a hotel and coming into contact with people from all over. They still want to travel, but are leary of flying on airplanes. Statistics show that many have been looking for staycations where they can rent an entire cabin or home within a two to three-hour drive of their home. Have you been looking for a staycation near you? Scurlock Farms offers the perfect solution!
Rural Cabin on Riverfront Property
If you have been looking for a staycation near you, look no further! Scurlock Farms is located in central Texas in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, less than a three-hour drive from Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. The Palette Pad cabin sits in the middle of the 172-acre farm. The beautiful San Gabriel River forms the north border of Scurlock Farms, a little over one mile. You will have access to the river, hiking trails about the farm, access to visit and interact with the farm animals – horses, goats, and cattle. You can even gather eggs from our free-range hens for your breakfast.
The river is a five-minute walk from the cabin or a short drive down through the pasture. Bring your fishing poles and wet a hook.

Rural home on riverfront property
Rocky Overlook is a 2500 square foot home on Scurlock Farms that is perfect for families or couples looking to safely getaway. Check it out for a staycation with the children. They can enjoy gathering eggs, riding in a tractor, interacting with the farm animals, searching for arrowheads on the hillsides, looking for fossils in the wide white limestone banks of the San Gabriel River, lazing in the hammock, or playing in the large yard. Fishing is great on the San Gabriel River at Scurlock Farms.

Kayak Anyone?
Every summer, except when we are on a drought situation, many kayakers kayak past Scurlock Farms. Many of our guests have rented kayaks and enjoyed kayaking on Lake Georgetown. If you are interested in doing this, check out San Gabriel Paddle Sports. They will meet you at a prearranged location on the lake with the kayaks, life jackets, and a cooler that can be a dry box and/or childrens’ seat.

Bring Your Fur-Baby With You!
All well-behaved and non-aggressive dogs are welcome at Scurlock Farms. We have two farm dogs, Jack and Jill. Other guests at the farm may also bring their pets and we need everyone to get along. Dogs love exploring the farm and swimming in the river as much as their owners do! They especially enjoy running off-leash, something many dogs have never been able to do before. There are furniture covers in the cabin to put on any furniture your pet might like to relax on.

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness in These Times
I understand that people are more concerned with cleanliness now more than ever! Connie is my housekeeper and she has always started at the top of the ceiling fans and cleaned her way to the floor. So many of the hundreds of reviews I have received have mentioned how clean the cabin has been.
In the current climate, we are doing even more towards keeping ourselves and our guests safe. Everything is cleaned, then disinfected. The final step we take is to sanitize all frequently touched areas and items – doorknobs, light switches, handles, faucets, etc. We are also leaving a 48 to 72 window between bookings to give the cabin time to air out before Connie cleans it from top to bottom to get it ready for the next guests.
Some guests want to do nothing but stay on the farm and away from everyone, while enjoying the hammock, listening to the bird songs and spotting the Great Horned Owl that visits most evenings, hiking to the river, or just reading a book while staying safe.
Other guests want to get out and see some of the sites while socially distancing and wearing their masks. Whatever you are looking for, the cabin at Scurlock Farms will make a great staycation for you!
