Looking for a Staycation in a
Cabin or Home Near You?
2023 found things getting more back to normal for the travel industry, and folks were really ready to get out and travel more. Then the economy began unraveling and everything became more expensive. Staycations, staying somewhere closer to home where one can rent an entire cabin or home within a two to three-hour drive of their home, became very popular in 2020through 2022 due to Covid. Have you been looking for a staycation in a cabin or home near you? Scurlock Farms Airbnb’s offers the perfect solution!
A family from India moved to Texas a year ago and they chose to spend a week at Scurlock Farms for their family vacation last summer. She commented, “why spend a lot of money flying somewhere or driving long distances when there are so many things to explore locally.” They loved their farm stay with us!
We have had guests from 30 countries and all 50 states. We see more guests booking from Houston and the surrounding area than any other part of Texas. Without exception, they comment on the peace and quiet of the farm, saying they can actually hear the owls hooting at night, rather than sirens and traffic.
The Best Airbnb Cabin and Home in the area!
Rural Cabin and Home on Riverfront Property
If you have been looking for a staycation near you, look no further! Scurlock Farms is located in central Texas in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, less than a three-hour drive from Dallas, Houston, and only 1.5 hours to San Antonio. The Palette Pad cabin sits in the middle of the 172-acre farm. The beautiful San Gabriel River forms the one mile north border of Scurlock Farms. Guests have access to the river, hiking trails about the farm, access to visit and interact with the farm animals – horses, goats, and cattle. They can even gather eggs from our free-range hens for breakfast.
The river is a five-minute walk from the cabin or a short drive down through the pasture. Bring your fishing poles and wet a hook. Many fish have been caught at the farm! Bass, catfish, bluegill, perch and gar.
The homes are listed on Airbnb and many savvy guests find us there, read all the reviews, then book direct at https://Scurlockfarms.com/book-now. Who doesn’t want to save those hefty, pesky booking fees that the online booking agencies collect? BOOK DIRECT AND SAVE.
Many guests choose to come in the fall so they can enjoy the cooler weather, fall wildflowers and the fire pits and fireplaces.

Rocky Overlook is a 2500 square foot home on Scurlock Farms that is perfect for families or couples looking to safely get away. Check it out for a staycation with the children. They can enjoy gathering eggs, riding in a tractor, interacting with the farm animals, searching for arrowheads on the hillsides, looking for fossils in the wide white limestone banks of the San Gabriel River, lazing in the hammock, or playing in the large yard. Fishing is great on the San Gabriel River at Scurlock Farms. Young and old alike enjoy riding in the jump seat of the large cabbed tractors when the guys are raking and baling hay. Kiddos are always offered tractor rides, hay season or not!

These guests are enjoying fishing and playing with the baby goats during their staycations.
Kayak Anyone?
Every summer, except when we are in a drought situation, many kayakers kayak past Scurlock Farms. Many of our guests have rented kayaks and enjoyed kayaking on Lake Georgetown. Unfortunately, the summer of 2023 has brought us very little rain and the river is very low and tubing and kayaking have not been an option. Fingers crossed for some good rains beginning mid to late September! It just takes one 2″ – 3″ rain to wash out the algae and refill the river, and we are SO ready for it!

Bring Your Fur-Baby With You!

All well-behaved and non-aggressive dogs are welcome at Scurlock Farms. We have a farm dog, Jill, a Meremma Sheepdog. Jill is a gentle dog that loves children and other dogs. Other guests at the farm may also bring their pets and we need everyone to get along. Dogs love exploring the farm and swimming in the river as much as their owners do! They especially enjoy being able to run off-leash, something many dogs have never been able to do before. There are furniture covers in The Palette Pad and Rocky Overlook to put on any furniture your pet might like to relax on.
Nina, a 9 month old Boxer, visited and had never seen a horse. She was very curious about Ginger and jumped on the fence to give Ginger a doggy kiss – and she never barked!
Cleanliness is Next to Godliness in These Times
I understand that people are more concerned with cleanliness now more than ever! Connie is my housekeeper and she has always started at the top of the ceiling fans and cleaned her way to the floor. So many of the hundreds of reviews I have received have mentioned how clean the homes have been.
In the current climate, we are doing even more towards keeping ourselves and our guests safe. Everything is cleaned, then disinfected. The final step we take is to sanitize all frequently touched areas and items – doorknobs, light switches, handles, faucets, etc.
Some guests want to do nothing but stay on the farm and away from everyone, while enjoying the hammock, listening to the bird songs and spotting the Great Horned Owl that visits most evenings, hiking to the river, or just reading a book while staying safe.
Other guests want to get out and see some of the sites while socially distancing and wearing their masks. Whatever you are looking for, The Palette Pad or rocky Overlook at Scurlock Farms will make a great staycation for you!
