Do You Like to Try New Food and Dining Experiences? There are many venues in Georgetown that receive Two Thumbs Up!
When in your home territory and your normal routine, do you find yourself opting for the same restaurants, or do you like to venture out and try new experiences? When traveling, do you find yourself going to the same chains that you frequent at home, or do you try to “live like a local”? I would like to encourage you to spread your wings and try some of the excellent local food and dining venues in Georgetown TX.
Georgetown is really fortunate when it comes to dining out options. We have first-rate places all over town. Does your taste run towards farm-to-table foods, Mexican, Italian, Thai, Pizza, Bar-B-Q, Cajun, or foods we all enjoy – comfort foods? Then you are in luck and you are bound to give two thumbs up to any of these choices!
Hats off to The Hollow!
The Hollow’s chef Jacob Hilbert has been praised in Zagat. If you are looking for a memorably delicious farm-to-table meal, a great wine list, or a cocktail that is worthy of a visit on its own merit, fantastic service and a comfortable interior, this is the place for you. It is conveniently located just off the beautiful Georgetown Square.
Whether you opt to have a fantastic steak, duck, fish or scallops, you will enjoy what Chef Hilbert creates. You will also enjoy the freshly baked breads.
Be aware that it is fairly expensive, but with really large portions, it is easy to split a meal or take a “meal” home to enjoy later. If necessary, you might want to save up so you can enjoy a meal at The Hollow. This fine restaurant is certainly as good as any that Austin has to offer!
The Monument Cafe is my favorite “comfort food” farm-to-table restaurant in Georgetown!
This is an extremely popular farm-to-table restaurant in Georgetown. Sadly, they now close at 3 pm and no longer serve dinner. But, the good news is, their sister restaurant El Monumento, does stay open for dinner, and they even serve an all-time favorite – Chicken Fried Steak!
The Monument Cafe has recently added more breakfast items, mainly in the fancy poached egg category. My brother has lived and traveled all over the world, and he told me he had the best breakfast he has ever had at The Monument Cafe!
Everything served here is fresh, never frozen. The orange juice is fresh squeezed, the eggs are from free-range chickens, and they buy as much locally grown produce as possible from the local farmers. In the past, they purchased many peppers we grew at Scurlock Farms.
Almost all guests at Scurlock Farms eat at The Monument Cafe at least once, and all have loved the experience! While visiting, be sure and visit the local Farmer’s Market in their side room, and pick up locally grown produce to prepare your own meals when returning to Scurlock Farms.
Visit on a Friday evening and enjoy the live music in The Biergarten. They are now serving the cafe’s menu items there.
No visit to The Monument Cafe is complete without making a trip to the bathrooms! Check out the entire facility as you walk around and watch the chefs as they prepare your food in the open kitchen.
In my humble opinion, El Monumento is the Most Beautiful Restaurant in Georgetown!
Both The Monument Cafe and El Monumento are owned by Rusty Winkstern and Clark Lyda.
A visit to this restaurant should include a walk around the interior and the exterior just so you can enjoy the amazing architectural features and the awesome landscaping! In temperate months, I love to sit on the outdoor patio overlooking the South San Gabriel River and the blue lagoon that forms Blue Hole – a favorite spot with locals and out-of-town visitors. Misters help keep you cool in the summer. Check out the interior patio and El Bar, too. When it is cold out, I love sitting near the large interior fireplace.
Oh, by the way, the food is delicious, too! Don’t expect Tex-Mex, interior Mexican food is served. My oldest son lives in the Dallas area, and this is his favorite restaurant to visit when he returns home. He says it it is the best restaurant in Georgetown and Austin (he used to live in Austin).
Dos Salsas Tex Mex is our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant and we normally eat there several times a week. They have great breakfast tacos that are very reasonably priced, and great lunch specials each day. Their Chicken Tortilla Soup is the best I have had. They also have a full-service bar and a large outdoor, covered patio dining area. If you visit for breakfast or lunch during the week, ask for Tina and tell her Sheron and Dan sent you – you will receive outstanding, friendly service!! If you arrive right at lunch time or during the dinner hour, you can expect a wait.
Smokey Mo’s Bar-B-Q – Voted Best Bar-B-Q in Central Texas several years in a row!
This is another of our favorites – in fact we had breakfast there this morning! Love their breakfast tacos and breakfast wraps. Every day they have a different lunch special. Thursdays are one of our favorites, with a loaded chopped beef baker. Dan and I can split one and be comfortably full. David, our son, and Casey, our middle granddaughter, can both eat the entire thing! If you plan on returning, save your Smokey Mo’s drink cup, and refills are only $1. Also be sure and ask for a senior discount if you qualify.
Sweet Lemon Kitchen is in a beautifully restored older home one block South of the Square. They serve breakfast and lunch. Very popular and busy at lunch! Great, very large, salads, sandwiches, fantastic bakery, etc. Plenty of seating is also available under the large shade trees in the yard.
An extremely popular dining spot on the square that welcomes dogs on its patio is 600 Degrees Pizza
Want to watch a game on a big-screen TV while enjoying one of 55 draft beers? 600 Degrees Pizza is the place for you! They use fresh ingredients. Dogs are welcome on their outdoor patio.
Want to grab some good bar-b-q to go?
Another really popular bar-b-q provider is John Mueller’s Black Box Barbecue right off the Square. The Black Box trailer sits across the street from 600 Degrees Pizza and there are outdoor tables and chairs if you want to enjoy your meal there.
Tony & Luigi’s Restaurante is our favorite Italian restaurant in Georgetown. We have taken many guests there, and all have enjoyed it.
