Day Trip to the San Antonio River Walk!

October 7, 2016 by Sheron Scurlock 2 Comments

Mr. Scurlock at Casa Rio restaurant on the San Antonio River Walk

Back in June, on the spur of the moment, we decided get away from the farm for a while.   We took a day trip to the San Antonio River Walk. The month of May was really hectic around Scurlock Farms as we prepared for two big events – a wedding and a multi-generation family vacation…

The “Birth” of Scurlock Farms Vacation Rentals

October 3, 2016 by Sheron Scurlock 5 Comments

Dirt road

Guests often ask how we became involved in the vacation rental business. Scurlock Farms Vacation Rentals was “born” November, 2010.  To explain that, I have to go all the way back to 1971.  My mom and dad, Bill and Pauline Thweatt, bought the original 112 acres in 1968. They offered their five children a home…

Old Barn moving resized edited

Have you ever used or applied the term  “Necessity is the mother of invention”? Have you had to move something unusual or out-of-the-ordinary and have to figure out a “new way” to do something? If you have, people like you and my dad certainly understand “necessity is the mother of invention”! My dad did not…

Egg Eating Chicken Snake Terrorizes Hens

Chicken Snake w hoe

Today Dan and I were part of a life and death event on the farm with a chicken snake. We returned home from running errands and checked the three areas where our hens like to lay their eggs.  One is in a large flower pot near the front door, behind two Devil’s Trumpet plants.  I…

What Was Your Favorite Pet?

May 23, 2016 by Sheron Scurlock 2 Comments

Lucky edited

What was your favorite pet when you were growing up? Are you a dog person, a cat person, or do you just love animals in general? Dan, my husband, is one of those that just loves all types of animals.  He picked up stray cats and dogs as he walked home from school in Rockdale. …

Repeat destination

Pros:
Great Location on a family-owned Farm.
Owner was extremely friendly and courteous.
Beautiful stretch of river near location.
Peaceful and quite.
Dog friendly
Perfect size for 2 people and a dog.

Details,
Sheron Scurlock provided such a unique and enjoyable rental that we are looking forward to going back to. The location is relatively close to many fun attractions in south Texas. However, the farm itself is well worth the trip to visit. There is a beautiful stretch of the San Gabriel within short walking distance. Sheron provided an extensive tour of the property. We were able to feed and interact with some of the different live stock they have on the farm. Sheron also provided fresh baked muffins and fruit for our mornings. When we arrived home from our enjoyable stay we received a hand written note from Sheron in which she expressed her gratitude that we came to visit and even made references to things we did during our visit. Sheron and the property were so welcoming, courteous, and enjoyable. We have been to many neat rentals over our trips, and this is the first one we are planning to make a repeat visit to. It just takes one visit to feel like you're a part of the Scurlock family. One visit and you'll be hooked and wanting to come back.
