Family Reunion Cabin Georgetown TX: Sleeping 3 Generations

October 10, 2026 by Web Master Leave a Comment

A family reunion cabin in Georgetown, TX works when the layout lets grandparents, parents, and kids keep separate sleeping space around one big shared room. At Scurlock Farms, a 172-acre working farm on the San Gabriel River, Rocky Overlook is the home built for that job: 2,500 square feet, five minutes on foot from the river. The Palette Pad, a 520-square-foot rock home, sleeps two and suits a grandparent couple who want quiet.

Key Takeaways

  • Rocky Overlook is a 2,500-square-foot home five minutes on foot from the San Gabriel River. The Palette Pad is a 520-square-foot rock home with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a 2-guest limit.
  • Ask the hosts for the bedroom count, bed types, entry steps, and occupancy limit in writing before you send a single invitation.
  • Farm activities for every age are included in a stay: narrated six-seat Polaris tours, tractor rides, egg gathering, and river fishing for bass, catfish, bluegill, perch, and gar.
  • The farm sits about 30 minutes north of Austin and about 1.5 hours from San Antonio. Dallas and Houston are each under three hours away.
  • Booking direct with Sheron and David avoids OTA service fees, and $1 from every night booked goes to The Caring Place Food Pantry.

Larger vacation homes have been climbing in popularity since 2020 as groups choose one house over a scattered block of hotel rooms. A reunion is the clearest case for it.

Georgetown sits on the eastern edge of the Texas Hill Country, which makes it a fair meeting point for relatives driving in from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. Our family has farmed this land for more than 58 years. Sheron has lived here for over 50 of them, and David, a retired 30-year veteran of the Georgetown Police Department, helps her run every stay personally.

Below you will find a layout strategy for splitting rooms among generations, a pre-booking checklist most listings never give you, a cost-per-person breakdown, and an activity plan sorted by energy level.

What Makes a Family Reunion Cabin in Georgetown Work for Three Generations?

A multi-generational reunion cabin is a rental home with enough separate sleeping areas, one large shared room, and safe outdoor space to keep three age groups comfortable for a full weekend. In Georgetown, that formula is easiest to hit outside town, where the yard is a pasture instead of a fence line.

Scurlock Farms has 172 acres of live oaks, a 20-acre pecan orchard, trails, and one full mile of San Gabriel River frontage. Cattle, horses, goats, and free-range hens share the land with your group. A six-year-old can gather eggs while a grandfather watches from a chair, and nobody needs a schedule.

A good reunion house needs a main room where everyone can eat at once and bedrooms at different distances from the noise. It also needs an outdoor gathering spot, and our homes have fire pits, fireplaces, and hammocks for exactly that. A hotel block scatters the family down separate hallways, while one roof keeps the morning coffee conversation going.

Rocky Overlook or The Palette Pad: Which Home Fits Your Group?

Rocky Overlook is the better fit for most three-generation groups, because it is a 2,500-square-foot, family-friendly home on the Scurlock Farms property. The Palette Pad is an intimate 520-square-foot rock studio that sleeps two. The table below shows how each home compares.

Home Size Sleeping Best for Standout feature
Rocky Overlook 2,500 sq ft Confirm bedrooms and bed types with the hosts Multi-generational groups and families with kids Five-minute walk to the San Gabriel River
The Palette Pad 520 sq ft rock home 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, up to 2 guests A grandparent couple or a quiet retreat for two Wall of windows over the river bottom; fireplace, fire pit, BBQ grill

The Palette Pad does not hold a family of five, and we would rather say so than see you book it by mistake. It was the studio of artist C. P. Montague, Sheron’s mother, and her work still hangs in the guest homes. That history suits grandparents who want a river-view morning and a fireplace evening.

Both homes are on the same farm, so ask Sheron and David through the Scurlock Farms homepage whether both are open on your dates. You can also read what past guests said in the Rocky Overlook guest reviews. Reunions larger than Rocky Overlook sleeps need a different plan, and the hosts will tell you plainly if yours does.

How Do You Divide Bedrooms and Quiet Space Among Grandparents, Parents, and Kids?

A generation-by-generation layout is a sleeping plan that assigns rooms by need instead of first come, first served. At a Georgetown farm stay, where mornings start with birdsong and evenings end around a fire pit, the right assignments prevent most reunion friction.

  1. Place grandparents first. Give them the quietest bedroom nearest a bathroom, and on the entry level if stairs are a concern.
  2. Group families with babies together. A room close to the common area lets a parent step out without waking the house, and the farthest room should go to a teenager who sleeps late.
  3. Give teens a defined space. A corner of the main room or a hammock outside keeps a 15-year-old from drifting into the grandparents’ wing.
  4. Keep the main room neutral. Decide in advance that it belongs to everyone and no one sleeps there, so the card game and the coffee pot always have a home.
  5. Set one quiet hour. After a day of farm activity, an agreed lights-down time protects the early risers.

Ask the hosts for the actual bedroom count and bed types at Rocky Overlook before you assign anyone. A plan built on guesses falls apart at check-in.

What Should You Ask Before Booking About Accessibility, Occupancy, and House Rules?

A pre-booking reunion checklist is a short list of questions that confirms a rental’s physical layout, occupancy limits, and house rules before you collect deposits from relatives. Listings usually describe amenities and skip these details, and for a group with a 78-year-old and a 2-year-old, they matter more than the countertops.

  • How many steps lead to the front door, and is there a bathroom and bedroom on the entry level?
  • How far is parking from the door, and is the path paved, gravel, or grass?
  • What is the maximum number of overnight guests, and do daytime visitors count toward the limit?
  • Are there quiet hours, and are there limits on adults versus children?
  • Are any amenities seasonal or restricted? Outdoor fires, for example, can be limited during dry-weather burn restrictions, so ask whether the fire pit is available on your dates.
  • What is the pet policy? At Scurlock Farms, a one-time $70 fee covers up to three pets, and dogs are welcome off leash. Cats are not permitted because of family allergies.
  • Can the hosts confirm all of this in writing?

Terrain deserves its own note. This is a working farm, not a theme park, so paths are uneven and the limestone riverbank is slick in places. Closed-toe shoes are essential, and flip-flops on the riverbank are a mistake. Guests who cannot walk the trails can still see the property from the six-seat Polaris, which carries the farm tour.

What Is the Average Cost Per Person for a Georgetown Family Reunion Cabin?

Cost per person for a reunion rental is the total nightly rate, plus fees and taxes, divided by the number of guests staying. According to AirDNA, the average daily rate for short-term rentals in Georgetown, Texas is $155 across all property sizes and types.

That figure is a yardstick, not a quote. A large home like Rocky Overlook will not price the same as a one-bedroom unit, and rates shift by season, so confirm the current price on the booking page. As an illustration, ten people splitting a $155 night would each owe $15.50. The per-person cost falls fast as the headcount rises, which is the quiet advantage of one big house over several hotel rooms.

Here are three ways to keep the split fair:

  1. Share the nightly total evenly by head, and charge children at half if your family agrees.
  2. Add the one-time $70 pet fee only to the people traveling with pets.
  3. Collect the deposit from one organizer and settle up with a shared spreadsheet, not group-chat promises.

Booking direct with Sheron and David means the price you see is the price you pay, with no OTA service fees added at checkout. For a group, that can be a meaningful amount to divide.

What Can Grandparents, Parents, and Kids Do Together on the Farm and Around Georgetown?

A mixed-age reunion itinerary is a day plan sorted by energy level instead of by attraction, so every generation has something to join. Scurlock Farms covers most of it on its own property, and Georgetown covers the rainy-day backups.

Low effort: the whole group, no walking required

The free farm tour runs on a six-seat Polaris and comes with our family history narrated along the route. Six seats means a larger group rides in shifts, so plan a coffee-and-porch rotation. Tractor rides and egg gathering from the resident hens work for every age. Evenings belong to the fire pit.

Medium effort: river and orchard

The San Gabriel River frontage runs a full mile. Anglers can expect bass, catfish, bluegill, perch, and gar, and bluegill and perch are the forgiving ones for kids with a first rod. Fossils and arrowheads turn up along the limestone banks, which turns a slow walk into a scavenger hunt. For paddling beyond the farm, our guide to kayaking near Georgetown lists the best spots. Walk in the morning, because Texas heat makes midday on the trails miserable from summer into early fall.

Off the farm: weather and evening backups

When rain makes the riverbank too slick, head to Inner Space Cavern, where tour options and visitor requirements are posted on its official site. In the evening, check the schedule at the Georgetown Palace Theatre. For fresh air, Blue Hole Park and Lake Georgetown post their own access and safety notices, and you should read them before you go.

Where Should a Big Group Eat in Georgetown, TX?

Group dining in Georgetown centers on the downtown square, where several restaurants sit within a short walk of each other. For a reunion, the practical rule is to call ahead, because a party of ten or more rarely fits a walk-in table.

City Post Chophouse is the choice for a celebration dinner and works well for a grandparent’s milestone birthday, since it occupies a historic downtown building. Monument Cafe is a Georgetown classic and the easier pick for a relaxed family meal with picky eaters. Check each restaurant’s official site for current hours and menus before you commit.

Do not plan every dinner out. One cookout at the farm is worth more than a third restaurant reservation, because the fire pit and the porch do the work. Confirm the kitchen setup at Rocky Overlook with the hosts before you plan a full group meal. The Palette Pad has a BBQ grill, so grillers in the smaller home can still contribute.

When Should You Book, and How Does Everyone Get to Georgetown?

Reunion timing in Georgetown means choosing a weekend when the weather is comfortable and the farm is at its seasonal best, then booking early enough that the dates are still open. AirROI’s Georgetown data identifies March, October, and May as peak short-term rental months, so those weekends fill first.

Demand is also rising. AirDNA reports Georgetown short-term rental revenue up 90.0% year over year from August 2026 to August 2026, with average occupancy at 59%. Weekend occupancy typically runs 15 to 25 percentage points higher than weekday occupancy in US vacation rental markets, so a Friday-to-Sunday reunion is the hardest request to fill late. A Thursday arrival or a Sunday-to-Monday stay often has more open dates.

Seasons shape the farm experience. Spring brings wildflowers, baby goats, and calves. Late summer may bring hay baling, and fall brings the pecan harvest. Summer is the hardest on grandparents, so keep the plan to mornings and evenings.

For travel, Scurlock Farms is about 30 minutes north of Austin and about 1.5 hours from San Antonio. Dallas and Houston are each less than three hours away. Out-of-state relatives can fly into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and drive north. Check current availability for your dates at The Palette Pad booking page, or contact the hosts about Rocky Overlook, since we do not promise dates in advance.

What Is the Simplest Way to Plan a Three-Generation Reunion in Georgetown?

Start with the roof. A family reunion cabin in Georgetown only works if the home fits your headcount, so ask for bedroom counts, bed types, entry steps, and the occupancy limit before anyone commits money. Then divide rooms by need, plan activities by energy level, and book a peak-season weekend early, because Georgetown demand keeps climbing in 2026.

Whether you are gathering six relatives or a larger clan, the Georgetown mix of small-town restaurants and open Hill Country land makes it an easy meeting point from Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston. Scurlock Farms has spent more than 58 years learning what makes a stay here feel like a piece of the family’s own land. Learn more about our boutique farm stay in Central Texas.

Repeat destination

Pros:
Great Location on a family-owned Farm.
Owner was extremely friendly and courteous.
Beautiful stretch of river near location.
Peaceful and quite.
Dog friendly
Perfect size for 2 people and a dog.

Details,
Sheron Scurlock provided such a unique and enjoyable rental that we are looking forward to going back to. The location is relatively close to many fun attractions in south Texas. However, the farm itself is well worth the trip to visit. There is a beautiful stretch of the San Gabriel within short walking distance. Sheron provided an extensive tour of the property. We were able to feed and interact with some of the different live stock they have on the farm. Sheron also provided fresh baked muffins and fruit for our mornings. When we arrived home from our enjoyable stay we received a hand written note from Sheron in which she expressed her gratitude that we came to visit and even made references to things we did during our visit. Sheron and the property were so welcoming, courteous, and enjoyable. We have been to many neat rentals over our trips, and this is the first one we are planning to make a repeat visit to. It just takes one visit to feel like you're a part of the Scurlock family. One visit and you'll be hooked and wanting to come back.
